The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) supports agriculture and farmers through income support, market measures and rural development. Rural development, the second pillar of the CAP, in particular strengthens the socio-economic, socio-cultural and environmental sustainability of rural areas and has a strong impact on the wider cultural sector. Rural development focuses on fostering knowledge sharing; enhancing competitiveness; promoting food chain organisation; promoting the transition to a climate resilient economy; protecting ecosystems; and supporting socio-economic inclusion and development.
